Technical Character Artist – undisclosed Next Gen project

We are currently working on a super exciting, undisclosed project for next gen. That’s why we want to expand our development team and are looking for a Technical Character Artist. The main focus of your work will be the enhancement of character animation rigs with additional systems for the simulation of secondary animations. These will be used for clothes, armor, hair and various other appendages that will be excluded from keyframe animation. Focus for these simulations will be the player character, which will feature a wide range of different outfits, hairstyles and other customization options.

The Technical Character Artist will be responsible for building and updating the character rigs, setting up vertex weighting of meshes and to create the setups for different types of simulations in the game engine as needed for each unique model. The ideal candidate will be able to take responsibility for this area and develop the topic throughout the production of the game.


You are the one who fulfils the following requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in the game industry in a similar role
  • At least two shipped titles in the gaming industry
  • Experience with realtime simulation tools used for cloth simulation in games
  • Knowledge of rig-building and vertex-weighting for game characters
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive, flexible and self-motivated
  • Ability to keep up a high standard of work equally in team settings and when working independently
  • Passion for playing and making games


A plus would be:

  • Experience with 3DStudio Max and the CAT rigging tool
  • Knowledge of anatomy and animation principles
  • Experience with character animation for games
  • Experience working within an agile environment


Your responsibilities are:

  • Building and maintaining simulation rigs that work as an independent part of the keyframe animation rigs
  • Creating simulations for clothes and other appendages with believable results that match the style of characters and animations
  • Be part of a small and highly collaborative multi-discipline development team
  • Creation and maintenance of character rigs and skinning
  • Setting up clothes and items for ingame simulation
  • Have fun and enjoy working with us
